I love this picture of her... it just doesn't seem quite "right." I'm wondering how I could have improved it, or a better editing technique? I was also wondering about the skin tone in the black and white version? Does it look off?

ReplyDeleteI think a little tilt would help so that the brick is lined up and not sloped. Tough when you have horizons like that. Great photo, I would play around with some color as well to give it a little dreamy seventies vibe to it. Try out some of Pioneer Woman's actions. They may really be awesome on this one.
ReplyDeleteFirst let me say that this photo is very well taken. When a photo has "good bones", the options for editing are limitless. I really like the edits you did.
ReplyDeleteAs I worked on the photo, a couple things caught my eye. First, I tilted the photograph 1 degree to the right. It was just slightly off-kilter.
Secondly, although I love the spread of her dress, the horizontal crop (I feel) didn't focus on your lovely daughter enough. I decided to go with a vertical crop.
Finally, although I love brick walls in most settings, this one seemed to be competing in styles with your daughter. She looks so feminine and light while the wall looks somewhat rustic. For this reason, I decided to go with a B&W using a gradient map layer and I dodged the wall a bit to lighten it up. That's totally an interpretation, and not necessarily the only way to go with this. Quite frankly, I think this photo is great, and your edits are very well done also!

ReplyDeleteI'm in agreement with Drew that the brick behind this little gal doesn't seem to go with the type of shot you were attempting to capture here (the lovely and ethereal look of her dress.)
ReplyDeleteIf you wanted to leave this a horizontal crop so that you could see her entire beautiful flowy-looking dress, you could try adding a duplicate layer and then adding a guassian blur just to the brick wall. Even if you adjusted the gaussian blur way down, it might make the wall look like it fits in better with the tone of your daughter's dress.
