Blessing

Borrowing strength, I plough. Filling the field with seed, I look up in hope. Will the rain come soon? Will we see life spring up all around us? Surely, there will be a harvest. Surely, the reapers must reap. Yet now, fields full of labour await the blessing.

Slowly the endless brown field tints greener and greener, until the earthen colour is covered with an ordered turf of sweet green sprouts. From a distance, the rolling hills sway in the wind, as the blessing energizes the growing crop. Walk through those clean and fresh rows of potential. Let your hands drag below and touch to tops of the striving plants. Smell the fresh breeze catching the scent of the field and filling the heart with summer’s warmth. The invisible power of the sun empowers from above, transforming and feeding those endless fields.

Sometimes it’s dry, and the crop faints in fear. Worrisome onlookers bend under the grief of the thought of lost harvest. Will the rains ever come? Will the blessing fall? Surely there must be a harvest. Surely this endless field wouldn’t scorch in vain. Patches of once ordered and swaying green life wither into the dust and crumble ‘neath the beating heat of the sun’s fiery radiance. There is no hope for them now; they cannot yield a harvest. Yet, though those patches of the field lay waste, much awaits yet still, pleading with the sky for blessing, pleading for rain.

Have you ever seen a plant smile? Have you ever heard a tree sing? Have you felt the sigh of relief as the first raindrop touches the crisp dry fields? Ground that is so hardened by the summer heat, now absorbs endless supply of sweet clean blessing dropping down from above. And as it does, those crying, hopeless lives feed on the succour of the sky. The blessing has fallen, and the life and hope of harvest has returned. Sing fields and forests! Sigh in relief, for the blessing of God has fallen to revive your life.

Yielding is upon us. Harvest not far behind. Feasting awaits the labourers in reward for their short work. That borrowed strength repaid, and that time of labour done, yet another year of life cycles on.

Consider the field for which you borrow strength today. Consider the harvest. Consider the blessing from above.

There shall be showers of blessing, This is the promise of love, precious reviving again, send them upon us O Lord! O! that today they might fall!

Showers of blessings, showers of blessings we need

Mercy drops round us are falling, but for the showers we plead.

"He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation." - Psalms 24
