Blessin’ Baby

I’m sitting here at midnight. Hair, still curly from a late night shower. Kitchen is cleaned. Laundry is going. I now, finally, have a tea in hand. “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” comes to mind. I remind myself of my mom.

I have slowly but surely been adding decor to our new house. A picture here, a candle there… It’s beginning to feel like home now. I even finished a sign that I saw on Pinterest and adored-

Now I just have to figure out where to hang them…

This weekend, I’m working on a project for the kids’ bathroom! :)

Elijah’s paediatrician appointment on Monday was… less than I had hoped for. No answers- a perplexed doctor. More tests… He went for a blood test to check his steroid levels on Wednesday morning. He is scheduled for pulmonary function tests, and to see an allergy specialist, and a paediatric respirologist. He is breathing perfectly fine at the moment and I am trying my very best not to worry about him. Tomorrow (today, I guess) is his appointment with the Naturopath. I am very much looking forward to it.

I went to a long overdue dentist appointment today. The dentist came into the waiting room and said, “Are you Jaclyn? Come on in, kiddo!”

Kiddo?

I would expect that from someone my grandpa’s age- but this guy was easily under 40… kiddo?

Better kiddo than ma’am, I guess… :P

I love how Jeddy calls Lily his “blessin’ baby”. As in, God gave her to him as a blessing. When he prays, he always says, “And thank you God for my Blessin’ baby.”

It’s adorable.

Charity, was telling Adam about a hockey game that was on last night and who won, and who scored etc. When I asked her how she knew all this, she told me, “Oh, I was listening to the sports on my alarm clock this morning. Then, Ella came in and asked me to turn on Treehouse!” lol…

Charity and I, made Lily a mobile this week. It’s a bunch of swinging jellyfish. Scott thought the idea was creepy. “Jellyfish? You may as well make some bats to go on there as well!” I think he may have changed his mind when he saw the finished product… I’ll have to share a pic soon. Another idea I pinned on pinterest and actually followed through with making!

Keona, crocheted her first hat this week. It fits Lily. It’s a little wonky… but it’s much better than my first hat!

I made Lily a Valentine’s Day hat and Ella asked for one too.

Neither of them wanted to cooperate for a picture. I shall try again some other time…

Eve and Prayer are practicing a violin/recorder duet for the senior’s home this weekend. I played the recorder for years in school and never knew that it was capable of playing more than one octave. Prayer read the book I bought for them, and she has become quite the recorder player! They’re playing one of my favourite songs- “He Leadeth Me”…

We learned a ton of information on Christopher Columbus and the “New World” this week in school- Elijah was so into! As I was reading he said, “Wow! I wish they’d make a movie about all this!” Ha…

Two nights ago, Lily slept in her crib from 9pm until 4:30am! I could barely believe it when I saw the clock. She ate quickly, and went back to sleep until about 8:30am. I was super excited that this was going to be her new routine- unfortunately, it only lasted one night! Last night, we were back to her waking up to eat at 2am and then for the first time since she was born, she decided that she wanted to smile and coo, and then fuss and hit, for the next hour. I eventually put her in her crib and just left her to fall asleep. She did. :)

Well, I’m thinking that now would be a good time for me to sleep. Especially since she will probably be up in about an hour or so…

Lord, thanks for my ‘blessin’ baby!

Camp, Thunderstorms, and Crocheting

Whew! Time is flying… I’ll be 25 weeks this Friday.

I’m currently sitting in front of the TV, watching the weather channel, and all these crazy storms that are passing right over the camp that 4 of my kids are currently at. Tornado warnings… Ugh! I’m sure the girls are just fine, and probably think it’s a great adventure. Elijah however, who has dreams about me leaving him behind and a tornado sucking him up… Lets just say I’m a little concerned that he may not find the Tornado drills quite so much fun.

Ella’s new favourite sayings, “What in the world!?” and “Oh gweat!”

Though she definitely has some attitude issues, she is irresistible.

Today, all she wanted to do was sword fight with her Daddy. Once he had to go to work, she spent the afternoon playing lego with Jeddy.

Ella and Jed, have been best buddies these past two weeks, as my only non-campers.

Poor Keona, has been bored out of her mind the last few days. She really doesn’t know what to do with herself without the other girls here.

She had a great time at camp during her week though! Other than coming home and having to straight to the hospital with a spasming neck muscle…

Apparently, her Uncle Robbie was her personal bodyguard for the week and he did a good job protecting her from some boys who were angry with her for trying to save the toads they were torturing. Robbie stepped up and said, “Touch her and die!” Hahaha… Gotta love that.

Before she went to camp, Keona was able to finish the blanket she was crocheting for Danica.

I’m pretty impressed with her first attempt at such a large project. She already has plans to make another blanket for our baby. It will have to be neutral, since we have no idea what the baby is!

Did I mention there are only 99 more days to go!?

Jeddy has me doing a countdown.

On another note, I can’t believe how quiet my house has been this week! Making half a dinner, doing half the dishes, only putting three kids to bed- it has been so strange! We even took the car when we went out for ice cream on Monday night- no bus! ha…

Anyhow, it’s late and I’m exhausted. I’m really due for another belly pic- I’ve atleast doubled in size since the last one. A lady at church asked me how far along I was and when I told her I was 24 weeks, she said, “Oh, you’re big!”

I nodded and laughed.

“You’re going to have a big baby!” She insisted.

“No… I have small babies. I just get really big…” Was my reply.

And it’s true. Sixty to seventy pound weight gain, for a 7lb baby…

Oh well… More details of my last OBGYN appointment coming up with the belly pic! 

I Dream of Hats…

Seriously, I dreamt of crocheting hats last night. I’m thankful that I have lots of orders coming in, but wondering how I’m going to keep up at the same time!

Things around here are back to normal. School has gone magnificently this week.  Today, I learned that  baby elephant can weigh 260lbs at birth! Keona wrote a report on the great commission, and Elijah is whizzing through his math- as per usual.

I noticed today, and found it quite entertaining, how often my girls refer to situations by books. They say things like, “Oh, just like in Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm!” or… “We can do what they did in Swiss Family Robinson and…” or… {insert phrase here} about Anne of Green Gables, The Little Princess, Little Women, Mandie…. I love that my girls LOVE reading. I think I’ll have to find some new ones for this school year to read together.

Music practice has resumed. The string that Eve broke (while trying to tune her own violin) has finally been replaced, and their new song books have arrived…

Jeddy was insistent that he was “in kindergarten!” this year. Scott, was also insistent that I teach him if he wants to learn. I made him his own school bag, and got out the kindergarten curriculum…. Monday morning, he was so excited to sit at the table and “do school.” Well, that lasted a whole 2 minutes, until he was told to be quiet while we were reading… Then he decided kindergarten wasn’t for him.

Maybe next year! ;)

Try, Try Again

I saw these flowered baby hats a while back, and thought they were SO adorable! I figured that since I know how to crochet, I could just make my own! Well, the first two that I made... let's just say... they didn't exactly turn out. Well, unless you're going for a cone-headed look...

Last week there was some wool on sale at fabricland. Some really nice wool, name "Smoothie." After looking through all the colours, walking away from it, coming back to it, walking away, and coming back... I decided to go for it and try again! Thankfully, my wonderful mom-in-law, found me a pattern for the beanie hat. This one turned out Ok...No more conehead!

I think that I'll do it slightly different next time- but not bad for $4 of wool and an hour of time.

Unfortunately, Ella wasn't in a very co-operative mood tonight.

I was about to give up and just take a photo of the hat, and then I remembered what I had in my purse...

I had like 30 lollipops from Montana's in there!

Not that I would ever bribe my children with candy...
